Swedish Foreign Ministry Bullsh*t Report about Human Rights in People's Korea.

Here follows a critical appraisal of the report on "democracy, human rights and the principles of the rule of law in North Korea" published on the official website of the Swedish Foreign Ministry.

My intention in writing the following is only to point of the hypocrisy and duplicity of the Swedish State when it comes to Human Rights issues.

1. Political Participation issues:

The Swedish Foreign Ministry writes:

"The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (hereafter North Korea) is governed by a repressive political and military regime that commits gross, widespread and systematic violations of human rights."

Swedish police and security guards are repressive and abusive towards people of an immigrant background on a daily basis in Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö (where large communities of persons with an immigrant background reside). Case in point was the REVA program instituted in 2013 to hunt down and catch undocumented persons i the Stockholm Metro (Tunnelbanan) and in the Malmö metropolitan area. Persons where stopped, searched and questioned in public at random by Swedish Police "because they looked immigrant" on the basis of overt racial profiling. These racist abuses of immigrant persons by Swedish Police where documented by the activist group Aktion mot Deportation at the time. Furthermore, the human right to presumption of innocence (which is allegedly guaranteed by European Union conventions binding on Sweden) is systematically violated in context of prosecutions.

As I wrote elsewhere

I have already commented on the systematic violation and negation of presumption of innocence Human Rights for persons with immigrant backgrounds in Sweden through the systematic abuse of the "flight risk" loophole. Immigrants (especially those of an African and/or Arabic background) are regularly harassed, arrested, imprisoned and sentenced on arbitrary grounds by private security guards, Police, prosecutors, and courts in Sweden. The evidence is in the overpopulated Swedish prisons, jails and detention centers which are filled with inmates of an immigrant background. At the Ystad, Skåne remand prison, where I was interned in January of 2023, every single one of the four cell-blocks set aside for males in the wing of the facility I was placed at was filled with inmates of an immigrant background (mostly Arabic / Middle Eastern). In the cell block that I was interned there was only ONE white Swedish citizen.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry writes:

"North Korea's political system allows no real opportunities for citizens to participate in or influence public decision-making. Parliamentary elections are held every five years, but these are neither free nor fair. Decision-making is concentrated in the Korean Workers' Party. There is no political opposition."

Sweden has no moral right to attack the D.P.R.K on this issue, since the Swedish political class and government refuse to hold a democratic referendum on Sweden's accession to NATO, despite the fact that there is broad support in Swedish society in favor of the said referendum. The perspective of those against abandoning Swedish neutrality and in favor of a referendum on NATO is ignored or seriously underestimated in the media in favor of pro-NATO perspectives.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry writes:

"North Korea applies a system of political class hierarchies, called Songbun, where the population is divided according to perceived loyalty to the regime. This affects both citizens' educational opportunities and access to the legal system."

The Swedish Security Police (Säkerhetspolisen) enforces a system of surveillance and repression of persons deemed a "threat" to the security of the Swedish State or the interests of the Swedish State. Historically, the radical left has been a constant target for repression and other abuses for its perceived "lack of loyalty" to the Swedish political-economy. Persons are arbitrarily declared "threats to security" at the whim of the Säkerhetspolisen without basis in any type of objective and impartial procedural evidentiary process.

In April 2023, the Swedish government increased the budget for the security police (Säkerhetspolisen or SÄPO); which also functions as the political police force of the Swedish State, thus increasing the scope and intensity of potential repression against those deemed "disloyal" or "security threats" at the subjective whim of  Säkerhetspolisen operatives.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry writes:

"According to numerous and consistent reports, political dissidents and other people the regime finds distasteful are subjected to abuse."

In 2013, Swedish police raided and arrested persons in more than a dozen addresses in the cities of Eskilstuna and Stockholm as part of "Project Eskil", a Swedish Police effort to harass the radical left. The harassment tactics of "Project Eskil" were similar to those deployed by the FBI's COUNTERINTELPRO program in the 1960s and 1970s against the radical left in the United States. Several people connected with the radical left organization Revolutionära Fronten were arrested. I was an active supporter of Revolutionära Fronten in 2011-13. I was not a member, but I supported the work of its activists. In Swedish media and political commentary, Revolutionära Fronten was labelled a "gang of left-wing hooligans" and this campaign of systematic character assassination served as a pretext for police harassment of this political group.

Legislation has been introduced by the Swedish Parliament in recent years that not only restricts freedom of expression in Sweden (journalists are penalized for writing against Swedish State interests), but also gives more powers to the state's repressive arm (Police), as well as toughens the punishment for those who in one way or another do not accept the state's use of violence for repressive purposes. These laws introduce the dubious concept of "blue light sabotage". Anyone in Sweden who  interferes with the police's general surveillance activities directed against individual persons in connection with a political demonstration or strike action can be convicted of "blue light sabotage". In effect civil disobedience is made illegal. The penal code does not allow for fines in cases of "blue light sabotage"; instead for those who are suspected of seriously hindering the police's repressive or surveillance operations, a prison sentence of a maximum of four years awaits, and if the crime is judged to be serious (at the whim of the Police, of course), the penalty can be at least eighteen years.

2. The Legal system in the D.P.R.K.:

The Swedish Foreign Ministry writes:

"The judiciary is not independent and it is used to protect the regime, rather than to protect the individual against the state."

In Sweden the court system is rigged against persons with an immigrant background, again the fact is proven by the over representation of persons of an immigrant background (especially those of color) in Swedish prisons, jails and detention centers. The right to presumption of innocence, allegedly guaranteed by European union conventions binding on Sweden, is systematically ignored by the courts when it comes to defendants of an immigrant background. The Police and prosecutors abuse the "flight risk" excuse to effectively negate the right to presumption of innocence for immigrant defendants and suspects. Swedish courts are under the influence of racist supporters of the Swedish Democrat party who hold positions in the judiciary, thus making the Swedish courts in-hospitable to immigrant defendants.

In addition; there are people who have been interned at the immigration detention centers in Märsta and here at Åstorp who have been detained for more than the one-year limit. Allegedly people only stay detained for "two months", but that is a lie. People are simply re-arrested at the whim of the Border Police, again by abuse of the "flight risk" loophole. Long detention periods are a form of torture, especially when the person is not guilty of a crime.

 3. Media:

The Swedish Foreign Ministry writes:

"State control of the media and information is almost total and there are no indications of improvements in freedom of expression and press. The use of mobile phones has increased significantly, but access to the Internet remains limited to a very small circle."

The internal media policy of the Swedish State is highly duplicitous and sophisticated. Prima facie the Swedish government maintains that those who attack journalists and news providers must be prosecuted for seeking to intimidate "the free press". By "free press" of course, the Swedish government means press that is subservient to the Swedish State and Western perspectives. The category of "free press" does not include Swedish radical left media voices such as Revolution, Proletären, Internationalen, Riktpunkt or OffensivAt the same time, the state and government themselves gag journalists and limit their opportunities to report. Swedish journalists are penalized for reporting against the interests of the Swedish State or its allies; meaning The United States, Germany, France, the NATO military alliance etc.

As I wrote elsewhere

American dissident Noam Chomsky once commented about media in the United States: "The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion but allow very lively debate within that spectrum." This comment aptly applies to Sweden as well as the United States. Take for example the recent parliamentary elections in 2022; disproportionate time and attention was given by the Swedish establishment media to supporters of the racist Swedish Democrat party while radical critics of detention as well as anti-deportation refuseniks and No Human is Illegal activists were ignored. I say this with great indignation, because between April 2014 and August 2018 I was organized with a Christian anti-deportation activist network taking direct action to obstruct detention and deportation of vulnerable asylum seekers.

The expression of radical and fundamental oppositional criticism against racist immigration laws, xenophobic practices and repressive Police abuses against persons of an immigrant background are systematically filtered out of the Swedish establishment media.

 4. U.N. Human Rights inquiry

 The Swedish Foreign Ministry writes:

"In 2013, the UN Human Rights Council established a commission of inquiry for North Korea, which the following year reported on extensive violations of human rights.."

The United Nations Human Rights Council should set up a commission of inquiry for Sweden. Sweden very expertly cultivates and manipulates a false "humanitarian" image to obtain political, diplomatic and commercial advantages in context of the U.N. system; while in fact it systematically violates Human Rights. Sweden uses the excuse of "sovereignty" to justify its abuses against asylum seekers. UN asylum rules are altered by Sweden to the detriment of asylum applicants while asylum seekers are reviled, insulted and denigrated by the Swedish Political class, Police and Media with total impunity.

5. Foreign contact:

 The Swedish Foreign Ministry writes:

"The government's control over citizens and information makes it difficult for outsiders to reliably assess and report on conditions in North Korea. Furthermore, it is difficult for foreigners to come into contact with North Korean citizens in the country. This report is therefore largely based on second- and third-hand information."

The expert manipulation by the Swedish State of "humanitarian" optics makes it difficult for outsiders to reliably assess and report on human rights abuses against immigrants and left political dissidents  inside Sweden. White ethnic Swedish citizens (outside the radical left, anti-deportation activists, religious communities that offer sanctuary and honest human rights advocates), are not a reliable source on human rights and repressive conditions inside Sweden because the situation for White ethnic citizens is very different to that of citizens and residents of an immigrant background or who are persons of color.

In its website, the immigrant based political party Nyans (which is NOT a radical left organization) writes about Swedish citizens with an African background:

"Several reports show that Afro-Swedes are one of the groups in Sweden most affected by racism and discrimination. The unemployment rate among Afro-Swedes is 25%. Among university-educated men born in Africa, only 32% work in a profession requiring higher education. For African-born women with higher education, the figure is 40%. Gender and religion affect the daily lives of Afro-descendants. Black women face sexual harassment, while black men face suspicion and harassment from law enforcement. Muslim Afro-descendants are also a particularly vulnerable group as they are subject to both Islamophobia and Afrophobia."

CONCLUSION:

The Swedish State and the Swedish government have no standing to evaluate or formulate criticism the Human Rights situation inside the Democratic People's Republic of Korea or any other Socialist State (such as Cuba and Vietnam).

The United Nations should impose sanctions on Sweden until its government takes positive action to address and correct policies and practices that are repressive and abusive of the Human Rights of immigrants and their allies in the radical left and the environmental community.
